Any major research institution should have a Bioinformatics program. I took an intro class several years ago - basically just a lot of different database analysis techniques performed on protein sequence data sets. Sure there's a lot of interesting questions here, but if you're interested and want to get into the field a PhD program would be more appropriate.
That said, I saw just as much nonsense (and non-science) in that class as I did science. Biologists didn't seem anywhere near rigorous to me. A lot of ego in that part of the sciences as well.
