i can't tell you anything about saab doing hybridsd in the future, but i can tell you a little bit about electric conversion.

in high school (only two years ago for me) i worked with another kid and my professor, and we converted a ford ranger donated from the electric company into a fully electric vehicle. used a 8.5" diameteer motor, which had plenty of power by itself. Had to take out engine and all that stuff, only a small amount of suspension work. I had thought about doing it to a saab, but the main problem is the battery pack. for any reasonable type of range (typically 100 miles or so) you are adding in close to 1000 pounds of batteries! there isn't all that much extra room in a ng900. you may lose all trunk space :( but, In all, it isn't too complicated a job...
main changes include:
-take out engine, fuel tank, fuel lines, and everything of that nature
-weld mounting plates for new motor
-weld in place new motor
-new custom drive-shaft
-build battery boxes
-suspension work
-running battery lines
-putting in vacuum pump for bydraulic brakes
...those are the main bits, many small details (replacing throttle, installing e-meter in dash, etc.) it is do-able though for you do tackle most of it by yourself, but it will take time. can be made to plug into regualr house outlet, solar array, or wind mill. realistically your conversion cost will be in the neighborhood of $2000-$5000, depending on how much you do yourself, and if you can get donations.

hope that will give you an idea of what this would entail. sorry about the long message, but its something that i liked doing a lot and get kinda excited about...let me know if you have any questions.
