The 9^2s aren't moving very well. (Neither are 9^5 wagons for that matter.) You can probably get a 9-2 now for close to what you will pay for a used one a year from now. Just look at the prices that are being asked for year-old SAAB CPO cars versus what you can buy them for new -- the used cars actually sell at a PREMIUM (if we can believe the CPO asking prices). Maybe the premium is due to the CPO warranty but I think the more likely explanation is that some buyers fail to realize that new SAABs routinely sell for 20% or more below MSRP. Does your wife know that the $42K 9^5 wagon is actually a $32K 9^5 wagon, and the $30K 9^2X Aero with leather seats is actually ...... ?? I don't know; maybe $23K; maybe less than a comparable WRX!
BTW Subaru fit and finish is comparable to 9^2 fit and finish in my opinion: very good. However the materials are cheaper than what you are accustomed to in a SAAB. The door slam is tinny on the 9^2 and the WRX, and the shifter feels kind of cheesy in your hand in both cars. But the build quality is there on both thanks to Fuji Heavy Industries.
