I have a Range Rover Classic which is mechanically very similar to the Disco. If you want something that is more capable off-road than anything but a tank, get the Rover. If you want something that is quick, easy to fix, and cheap to keep running then look elsewhere.
I've found that Rover's aren't neccessaraly complex machines to fix, but getting hold of replacement parts for a reasonable cost can be troublesome. Fuel economy is dismall, and when small parts break it isn't always possible to run down to NAPA for a quick fix.
When I have my Rover up and running in the winter, I can't help but fantasize about driving my 900. The experience is sompletely different, but if you're looking for the ultimate in off-road capability then the Disco is your ticket. If you're not willing to make comprimises, then look elsewhere,
