Many people depend on Phil's reviews. He uses words very carefully in praising/trashing cameras. He doesn't throw words like "superb" around lightly.
Optical stabilization will give you *at least* another stop in low light.
A "superb" 12X zoom, combined with the OS and the Leica lens seems like a killer combo for travel.
I have a Nikon 5700, D70 (+ the good lenses), and a Canon S60, as well as Canon 35mm gear. For everyday, you cannot beat a small, high quality camera for everyday use and all the neat grab shot opportunities while travelling. I've more than paid for my equipment by having a camera with me at all times.
My advice: If you're the active type, get the Panasonic, lots of memory and batteries. In addition, get one of the new, small carbon monopods. Check out B&H Photo for the latest/greatest.
If you're sedentary, going on a dedicated photo safari, don't anticipate leaving the Land Rover, or want to shoot unobtrusively in crowds, pull out your checkbook and spring for the 20D Canon number and all the "L" glass you care to schlep.
Also, I cannot imagine a safari without the very best binoculars you can afford. I own a couple of pairs of Swarovskis, one for travel and a larger pair for the car. You'll never be satisfied with another pair, including the Leicas, after looking through them. Buy the Lumix and a pair of Swarovskis (8.5x42EL). You'll use the bins more than the camera. I promise.
