Well, if french press takes too long for you, I don't know how well you'd like a vacuum pot. Depending on how much coffee you are making it can take a while to boil the water. (I'm referring to the old style Bodum Santos without the fancy built in burner, maybe the new one is a bit faster?) IMHO, it is unquestionably the best way to brew "normal" (ie, not espresso) coffee. Very smooth, well rounded flavor without any bitterness. We do also have a KitchenAid drip pot which has worked pretty well when my wife doesn't want to wait for the vacuum pot.
I think the most important thing, no matter what method you choose, is to use the right amount of coffee: 1 tablespoon per 6 oz of coffee is what most people recommend.
Coffeegeek.com has reviews of just about every coffee maker out there. It might be a good stop before you buy anything. Good luck!
