If you are looking for good coffee and SPEED, a properly maintained bunn can be had for $100-300 depending on the size and features. I have a pour-o-matic at home and work with two burners. I use it with an empty filter basket to make hot water for tea or hot chocolate. When we have people over, I have hot water on top and coffee in the carafe under the basket.
The biggest reason for having it is the speed. It's about 3 minutes for a full pot of water, and 3-4 minutes for coffee, since the grounds need time to drain.
I grind my own locally roasted coffee and am pleased with the flavor. I grind it a little more fine than normal drip size. While it's a coffee maker that is commonly found in restaraunts and convenience stores, a cofee enthusiast can make much better tasting coffee in it than the stores average minimum wage high school employee who probably dosen't even like coffee.
