US does not produce any more, e.g., television sets, most everyday clothings, etc.. Now, what do you suggest to buy intead of imports ? How about the amount of money we spend on imported oil ?
It will take a very long time for increase of export to make a strong dollar. We are still spending like there is no tomorrow, just look and compare US saving rate with the rest of the world.
Not sure what you meant about pros and cons of foreign exchange rates, they are eventually driven by economic factors. Trying to rescue or intervene isn't going to work for long if the economic fundamentals cannot support a strong dollar.
