that the placement of the ignition switch in the center counsel is functional and not only an oddity, but never the less it isn't what makes a SAAB a SAAB. BTW my understanding that, beyond an ergonomic and safety stand point, a large purpose for putting the ignition switch in the center counsel was being able to incorporate the reverse/ignition lock. This feature has been lost with the latest 9-3. The new model now uses the common steering column lock instead. This, IMHO, not only makes the car more vulnerable to theft but it represents a loss of these little things that made a SAAB a SAAB.
