OK, say you sell this car. Costing way too much money. And I assume that you're going to go out and buy another car.
So, what you goin' get? Something new? Unless the name starts with Kia, you're looking at $20K. To get Saab 9000-like performance, comfort, and SAFETY, you're looking at $30K. Let's see, $1K or more in sales tax, $800/yr in property tax/registration (depending on state), interest on the money, increased insurance, and depreciation. Oh, yeah, new cars cost money to run, too. Ever price a 20K mile tuneup?
OK, so buy used. I'm sure that you can find a nice used car that won't break. The only ones I know of say Tonka on the side. So you'll find a nice used car that will still require repairs. Except that you're trading your known car for an unknown. Feeling lucky?
A major drawback of Saabs is that if you go to the dealer to fix every problem, you'll go broke. That's why there is this BB, because it allows folks to do some inexpensive repairs, or expensive repairs, themselves. Save a TON of money. Of course, you can buy a Toyota, and I'm sure the repairs there are cheap. Oh, well, no. The dealer there is just as expensive. Do they fail as often? No, not in the first few years. But if you're buying used, it isn't the first few years - you're buying the expensive time, no matter what logo is on the car.
If you like the comfort, performance, and safety of the Saab, keep it. If there's something out there that you like to drive better, get it. But any 9 year old car, no matter who makes it, requires work.
So, what car does your wife want to get?
