For front loaders and some others, these detergents have low suds. (And also are very dense and heavy with no fillers.) Quantities that are used per load are very small. With our water softener, we use 1 ounces per normal load. Note that the front end loaders and some others do not use much water, so the concentration of detergent is higher than with a tub full of water.
