I can only tell you my own story and let you derive the conclussions. Having been interested in Saabs since I bought my first one in 1988, I knew deep down that I'd like to, once in my lifetime, by a brand new Saab. So, for the last 17 years, I've kept my eye out for what I might think is the best deal I might ever get on a chance to own a brand new Saab. That came with a 2005 Saab at GM Employee pricing prices. Rationally, I still knew that I must have lost a significant value just driving off the lot, but I don't plan on selling this car for well over 100,000 miles, so the initial depreciation is not something that's going to affect me. Meanwhile, it's been just the most fun Saab I've ever owned. In addition, although we've always bought used Saabs, we've gone from buying the 118,000 mile deal car, to getting the 25,000 deal car (taking advantage of that early depreciation) with two years of warranty left. Now, we're addicted to the easy warranty service... And in the meantime, we've grown up a bit too and a few raises have come our way, so it's in the budget too...
