stick shift vehicle suggestion

I want to learn to drive stick. I took one lesson a few years back, and then got preoccupied with lots of other stuff. I figure the best way to learn is to buy and drive a stick. I am looking for something cheap to buy, insure, and maintain. The vehicle should offer some practicality and fun, while being a good stick to learn with. I guess the feel of the clutch should be acceptable and the clutch should be fairly durable to take learning abuse. I am open to trucks/SUVs if they come recommended. I have my hands full with maintaining 3 other vehicles so I require reliability.
Any other tips on what to look for? How exactly do I buy a stick when I can’t drive one? The test drive would be an embarrassment, if not impossible.
