Didn't learn on a B2000, but drove one in my youth

I grew up on a farm, so I learned to operate a manual transmission on farm tractors (without the benefit of syncros). After moving from the farm, my dad got a 1986 Mazda B2000 pickup truck which I drove for many years. No power steering, or power windows, door locks, or A/C for that matter. Light, with a stiff suspension, it was a lot of fun to drive. Shifting was quite good for an economy pickup. It's still running I think.
Since then I bought a 1992 Toyota Corolla, traded it for my present car, a 1997 Saab 900SE coupe, both manual transmission, BTW.
I taught my wife how to drive a manual transmission (using my Corolla and Saab), and she ended up getting a 2001 VW GTI VR6 with manual.
Now looking for an off-lease 9-5 Aero wagon with manual tranny to replace either the GTI or the 900SE, but tough to find!
My advice - learn on a car without much power - it will teach you when to upshift and downshift to maximize the performance of what you have, versus just "stomp & go" driving a more powerful car.
