hospital bills affect credit? Posted by rob [Email] (#1828) [Profile/Gallery] (more from rob) on Sat, 25 Jun 2005 14:24:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey guys, I had a recent visit to the emergency room while visiting relatives out-of-state. I had been on a ladder, helping to install one of those motion-sensing flood lights. The ladder gave way (sort of an awkward awning to get to...) and I landed on my feet in the bushes, but a branch of the bush broke off from my weight and stabbed me about an inch into my foot. Ambulance ride, etc...
They washed my foot (no stitches) and I was on my way.
This was about 4 months ago.
So now I have a bill for $1300, my health insurance paid all but about $400. Thing is, I just finished school a month ago and I really can't pay this right now. In the hospital, they had all these signs saying that service will be provided even if you aren't able to pay. I'm not sure what that means. I want to pay the bill because I'm not a deadbeat, but I just can't until I get a job. What are my options? Can I talk the hospital into some kind of deal? Do these bills affect my (perfect) credit record?
