I have a few caveats:
- You may want to put in new isolation valves. Ball valves will give you quieter flow than globe valves or gate valves.
- If it's gas, don't assume that you'll be able to take apart all of the plumbing and reuse the shutoff valve. That didn't work in my case. And, the location of the gas inlet to the burner control probably won't be the same as your dead one, so you may want to get a flexible burner hose, some black iron pipe nipples, tees, & caps, a new shutoff hose, and some gas-specific pipe sealer or teflon tape.
I was able to fit a new 40 gallon unit into the back of the SPG. Then I taught myself to sweat copper and install it in around 5 hours (including the time spent running to Home Despot and ACE Hardware for little stuff.
It'll take less time if you're better prepared than I was.
