The best way I can explain it is to uses this analogy. People are like kids with a new toy. When a kid gets a new toy, he/she plays and plays with it and then gets bored and then just simply neglects it and starts clamoring for a new one. It is the same with new cars, I can't tell you the number of people I know that buy a car, keep it for 5 years or so and trade it off.
So you drive the car until you are tired of it and trade it off. Sure, you just add to your debt (or lease), but who cares, you have a new toy now!
I however, drive my vehicles until the grave. I don't think I have ever gotten rid of a car until well after 150,000 miles. I even had a truck that was at 275,000 miles before I had to sent it to the boneyard. Of course, I was raised in an old school family. You bought something and took care of it, it was wasteful not to. So, it carried over into adult life, people today have lived in a throw away society for so long, that is all they know and they take no pride in much of anything.
