Undergrad-Spokane WA Grad-Albuquerque NM
1. What do you think is the most important electronic gadget or device for a college student to have?
It's really a toss-up between laptop (w/ wireless) and cell phone. The cell phone's been my only phone for the last 4 years (2 undergrad, 2 grad) and it's hard to imagine life without it. I had a desktop as an undergrad and there were many, many times where I hated the fact that I had to stay in my room to study, now I have a laptop and it's great to take it to classes/the lab/coffee to work or research.
2. What is your favorite or most essential gadget or electronic device?
Most essential is the cell phone. Combo alarm clock, phonebook, appointment reminder and phone (if were organized enough to use a pda, that'd probably be most essential).
Favorite is probably the ipod. The ability to listen to anything in my music collection on-demand anywhere is pretty darn nice.
3. What is the most extravagant or extreme gadget or electronic device that you have seen in a dorm room?
Not in a dorm room, but some friends (4 guys) had a house senior year that had a kegerator (sp?), big screen tv with satellite, tivo, xbox, playstation, big stereo system and assorted tricked-out gaming PCs.
In a dorm room, big screen tv, a couple gaming systems and a stereo was about as much as I saw.
4. What gadget or electronic device do you most want?
A dSLR, particularly a Canon 20D. I love my old SLR, and B&W printing is still a favorite hobby, but it'd be great to go digital for color. Also on the list (and a little more realistic on a grad-student stipend) is a little 512mb/1gb flash-based mp3 player to replace my old 64mb mp3 player for jogging and other non-ipod friendly activities.
5. Do you have a unique electronic gadget? What is it?
Probably the most unique are my 64mb Diamond/Rio mp3 player (that I've had since 1999 whe 64mb was great...) and my original Nintendo.
