My poor car got backed into last Friday by a pickup truck backing out of a space as I was pulling into my office parking lot. The damage is very minor (pushed in bumper and fender). I was pretty cool with the guy because he works with a messenger company at the same location as my office. I've known those guys for two years. I did not call the police and told him I would talk to his boss on Monday before calling the insurance company. It was obviously his fault... he backed into me.
So, this afternoon, the boss comes up to chat with me. In nutshell, he basically says its my fault and that I hit his truck! To add insult to injury, he claims that he's seen me and the rest of our office go flying through the parking lot like bats out of hell. He is basically accusing me of being wreckless! This came from left field and made me very angry. If you look at the damage it is completely on the right finder and bumper. There are no scratches... just a clean dent caused by a perpendicular force. If I hit him, the damage would have been on the front of the car (not on the side) Yes? With this damage, there is no way that I could have hit him unless I veered to the right. Why would I do this? I was going straight into the parking lot. His driver clearly backed into me.
And there is no way I was "driving like a bat out of hell." I was pulling into our parking lot from a left turn from the street. The damage is not that upsetting to me but it is the attitude of these people who I thought were responsible and respectable. If it's your fault, you pay for damages... not throw it back in my face and say its my fault.
I trusted these guys to be responsible, did not call the police and I now I get bit in the ass. I've called my insurance company to report the incident. I also got all the information from the other party. they are going to call the adjuster to come in the next day or so. Any advice on how should I handle this? I want these people to pay and not get away with something that it obviously their fault!!
Sorry, just had to vent after a frustrating day with unreasonable people!
