Im old enought to remember the same argument in the late 70's...I think frankly what drives consumer preference for efficient vehicles is not so much the price of gas but the availability of it anyone remember 1973?...gas pricing is somehat elastic to a point...look at europe - they're still paying 3 bucks a liter!. OPec has no pricing power any more as they've learned the power of the almighty dollar - one of their members is always the interloper. You want to drive an SUV with a big 5.4L V8 then go right ahead.
