Agreed it wasn't the best placed to build, but many places are not much better and continue to grow just because the original settlers decided on the location. The Netherlands has obviously figured out how to function as an entire country that is for the most part below sea-level. Venice will eventually be indundated by the Adriatic although they are trying to figure out how to build sea-walls or some other solution. And where I live (LA), as well as every other major city on the West Coast, including Seattle, it is only a matter of time before we are reduced to rubble when the big one hits. I think that there is so much history and culture in New Orleans, and hopefully enough infrastructure left, that makes it worthwhile to rebuild. I for one will be looking into buying a condo there when that happens to help revitalize NOLA.
