I agree with a lot of what's been said here. Turrbo and n8 have good points.

Although I once thought getting a kid a turbo Saab as their first car would be nuts, I went out and got my daughter (17) a '95 9000 CS with an automatic. She knows how to drive a stick, having spent about half of her learning time in my '96 9000 CSE. She is just happier in an automatic.

She calls it her dream car, which is important, as I hear other kids complain about the boring cars their parents gave them. She's not into speed and is a careful driver, so I don't worry about her out there.

Plus I can fix it, have a good indy, and I know it's safe and that it will probably serve her well, hopefully through college.

Just teach her to drive well...don't leave it up to the driver's ed weenies.
