Others sources such as FM tuners also have the same issues driving interconnect cables. Mods that put in good opamps* that at as directly connected cable drivers really work well. So preamps and signal processors etc are other devices that might have such problems.
* an opamp is an operational amplifier, a small chip, typically 8/6 pin, that has one or two amplifiers on board. Depending on the external circuit, you can get varous levels of gain or 1:1 to act as a buffer or line driver. External circuits can also create active filters. These amps can have very high slew rates and very high frequency ranges. Many are internally protected to be imune to shorted outputs, which makes them robust when used as direct line drivers where one could cause a short. Most opamps need a +/- voltage supply, such as +12V/-12V. Two implement a line driver, sometimes all that you need to do is cut the two output traces on a circuit board and tack four of the amps pins to the traces and bent two up and attach flying leads of +/- power to those.
