I ride a 99 R1100RT, just turned 60k miles, the oil heads were just redone now my bike is called the R1200RT, also availible as an R1200ST and a an R1200GS. I spent an afternoon on an R1200RT with the adjustable suspension and it was sweet, or I should say it was sweet for a boxer as it's still a big twin. The K bikes are somwhat heavier, but the big four is a smooth, screamin' sweet motor. The GT is only a little more upright than the S, but still pretty far leaned over on your wrists. I myself don't like that much pressure on my wrists, especially behind a full fairing, and I don't find the more upright RT riding position to be a detriment to performance either. The K bikes were just redone too, now with a transverse four with a hossack front end, lighter, faster.
BMW motorcycles has a lotta' new stuff to offer lately, both R's and K's have been improved, lots more used stuff lately being upgraded. The new bikes are nice but my '99 RT with 60k is still very competent and comfortable and I'll have to sell a few more Saabs, plus I wanna' see 100k, before I get a new one.
