Well, when I was looking for motorcycles (Sadly I don't have one...but I was once looking pretty seriously), I decided on a BMW (That's still what I'll get WHEN I get one.)
I'm not specifically familiar with the K1200GT, but I know that the K1200 power plant is very good. I'd recommend riding each of the models to see which riding position, etc. works best for you. The "K" bikes are water cooled and the "R" bikes are air cooled. Pretty much everything from BMW is going to be bomb-proof reliable, and good for well over 100,000 miles.
I've been on an R1100RS and a K100RS. Nothing newer than mid 90's though.
