I concur. There is a reason ad agenies are not an integral part of a company. I is easier to shift blame and switch agencies. Most likely JS gave marching orders to the agency to come up with ads that connect Saab with it's aviation heritage. The agency, in this case, complied. Is it relevant? Will it sell more cars? Does it endear more consumers to the brand? When you examine the current Saab product line-up, does the aviation DNA jump out at you? Maybe not...but they did connect Saab to jets. Mission accomplished.
Frankly, I think GM works way to hard trying to position Saab as premium Euro brand. It has never been that. Which is why it has never really stuck with the upscale buyer that considers BMW, MERC & Jag.
Saab, IMHO, should be an F-18 strike fighter.....or the J37 Grippen. It is interesting to listen to comments from fighter pilots that fly those planes. they talk about how user friendly the controls are, how the visibility is terrific, how comfortable and seamless the seating postion and controls are in relation the demands of the mission.
Once Saab/GM figure that out and develop a product that can be leveraged and connected with the consumer in that way, they will have a solid base to work from. I think porsche is a desent example. When Lexus introduced their new cars...they parked one at every private golf club and all of the hole in one tournaments had Lexus as the car you win.
Saab could do something similar around airports.....maybe cut deals with fighter pilots.
It must be a pressure cooker at GM anything right now.
