"Once again, I'll direct your attention to the website TML posted. vaccinedebate"
I did, and reading claims like this: "Vaccines were not responsible for the decline in death rates from infectious disease and offer no protection whatsoever." is enough to remove all credibility from that website. In his words the polio epidemic was not stopped by vaccination, neither was this the reason smallpox was eliminated. Try asking any healthcare professional or microbiologist how crazy that is.
Also, I don't think his opinion that all childhood infections are beneficial for children, sits well with parents of kids who have died of diseases that could have been prevented by vaccination. Measles is one of the leading causes of deaths amongst infants in the 3rd world. I don't think they would mind the tiny risk of side effects, if it means their kids live.
"You are dismissing the debate, which is "offensive"."
I'm not dismissing the debate. I'm dismissing claims that are potentially dangerous and without proof.
Yes, you are right that english is not my first language, and I realize my error.
"It is however slightly offensive to me to see the dismissal of thousands of years of testimonial or "non-scientific" anecdotal evidence in much of Western medicine."
I understand how you feel, but the problems with using anectodal evidence as basis for choosing treatments are huge. So until new methods and drugs have been proven to be better, or at least not worse, they can't be used. I haven't done any reading on the marijuana issue, but I thought it was available on prescription for cancer patients for example?
