Having grown up in MI and WI it seems clear, to me at least, that deer herds are actually in part managed to ensure there are large herds for good hunts so everyone can get their buck. It is such a big deal there are inappropriate social influences on deer management. Suprised there isn't a group called bucks unlimited b/c that really seemed like the object. Reasonable management should be goal #1 and if that makes the hunting tougher or more restrictive that just makes it more of a challenge and that is the way it goes. Now finally b/c of CWD they have done some things that will cut herds a little b/c it can't be completely ignored any longer that the population is at unhealthy levels.
