I had a very hard time with Latin and was glad to hear that it was been dropped many years ago.
But I then learned the appreciate how I learned to recognize the meaning of words from recognition of the Latin roots. And I must say the same of French as the Norman occupation of England had such a great influence in the English language.
So languages that you study and never really do well in are still a good part of ones education. But at the time, the crappy grades and pain would never suggest such benefits.
And on the subject of writing and speaking. Saabnet does create a opprotunity to write things well and practice that. Such things eventually do influence how you speak.
