I've been doing rotating shifts for almost 15 years, give or take a year or two.
1) The older you get the harder it is on your body. The recouperation time is longer.
2) A good majority of people you know will be on normal shifts, thus your social life will suffer. When you work nights, holidays, weekends, erevyone else is OFF. They play while you work. SUCKS! Now this won't happen all the time, but a good majority of time.
I've got to work Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years this year, because thats how the schedule rotates. Did it last year too.
3) It creates a more stressful family environment unless your family is very understanding to your schedule.
4) Try sleeping on the weekend during Midnight shifts while your family is home doing what they normally do on a weekend. Not good for sleeping.
5) When I was single it was much better!!!
6) Long breaks between shifts are really nice, but in the long run is it really worth it.
7) never a 'rush hour' for me to drive in.
8) Off hours can be productive because NO one else is aorund, both at home and in public, ie shopping, services, etc.
Just my take.
