Ian,
Been with Verizon for seven years now, I think you already know they are not known for their great selection of equipment. I have gone through moto v60c, moto v60p, startac 7867 and countless others, LG8100, Nokia 8260 (att), nokia 8290(att)..lost one within 24 hours after purchase....samsung 670, motorola t720, LGvx4400....and the list goes on.
Each manufacturer differs. The Nokias have great build quality, outstanding design, very intuitive and overall a great phone. We can call them the Saab of the cellphone industry. The best phones I ever owned were the Nokia 8260 and 8290 models; hands down! I read reviews about the 6256 and would recommend it, although I never tried it.
LG- LG phones tend to be plasticky, they are not put together very well and are really really ugly. Lets call LG the the KIA of the cellphone industry. I have a few LG phones and was not impressed, granted I nicknamed the LG VX4400 "the tank" because it was bullet proof. Reception is so so, hinges tend to looses and design is subpar.
Motorola- Motorola designs products that work, their build quality is spotty and varies from model to model; the t720 was horrible whereas the v60's were good. Reception is great and the phones come packed with a lot of features. Styling is simple yet sexy, not as artsy as the nokia pieces but lightyears away from the bling-bling fourteen year old plastic chrome spaceship look of the LG models. Moto phones come with bluetooth which is a big plus. The Motorola Hs-850 bluetooth headset is both goregous and smart at the same time. Voice quality is superb and it's featherweight. It's components like the Hs-850 that make bluetooth worthwhile.
Razr V3- The RAZR v3 has an internal antenna which limits reception quality. Further, the razor is a has been. The phone made its debut with Cingular a good while back, you do not want to jump on the bandwagon only to discover that the next new thing is the Motorola PEBL...two months after you signed your agreement. No, you need a phone that is more than just the next hot thing. You need a unit that packs all the latest technology, has long battery life, a less sexy but more functiona;/powerful antenna and great build quality. I found all those features in the Motorola E815. It's a bit large but the feature set is set "to kill". EVDO, bluetooth, brilliant/huge 65K screen, long battery life and surprising good build quality. The thing feels solid. It's not as hip as the Razr but what people forget that while the phone is small....it's twice as long/wide as the other phones..it's not small..it's merely flattened. I would be wary of complaints about reception/dropped calls. the V8100 is Korean junk. Suggest you try the Motorola E815. verizon staff will try to sell you the Motorola hs-850 headset for $99. This can be had on ebay for 41.95 +9 shipping in the sleeker black color...seller is in new york, queens and is legit..I bought two of these. The headset is a must have!
its late,
gnight,
Tom
