I’m in the NY metro area so there are plenty of dealers, just no good dealers (I have tried 4 and heard dory stories about the others). My indy is a few minutes from my house. I am not sure the Saab is worth having to travel long distances for service. If it was an occasional part, ok. My Saab always needs something. I don’t think there has been much time where everything was working perfectly. Sure I could speak with the dealer’s owner. A family member grew up with the owner and his siblings – same neighborhood, schools, etc. This family said the owner’s were always obnoxious so I doubt they care about one customer. The local dealer rep could have smoothed this all over by meeting with me and inspecting the car. I suspect that he is overwhelmed by the volume in this area and is not keeping tight enough tabs on the dealers.
I should add the service manager considers my out of spec situation to be ok since there is nothing more that he can do. He said, “Shims are not Saab parts.” I said, “They are.” His response, “I don’t know.” How can anyone work as a service manager and know so little about the few brands they service?
