That made me chuckle, usually the Saab customers are very confusing.
I don't see the 2.3HOT engine soldiering on past the current 9-5. Though the 9-5 was originally engineered for a GM V6 I guess Saab figured the current motor could be made to compete. And IMHO it's the real Saab deal, with more ties to previous Saabs, and better handling and better fuel economy for the same car, not that there isn't a trade off in idle smoothness and and overall character.
It's not confusing at all the the Saab that appeals to old Saabers, the higher price, higher deomgraphic car, should continue with the traditional drivetrain.
Can you imagine a 9-3SS with a 2.3HOT? Conversely why hasn't Saab punched out the 2.0T 9-3SS motor and added some boost? If the new smoother 9-3SS four cylinder engine ran the same boost and had the same displacement it would probably be well over 300hp.
