were to be produced in mass quantities it would be produced much more cost and energy efficiently. There are very obvious environmental, political, economic and social benefits if this got to a stage where it were a mainstay. Brazilian 'gasoline' is pretty much E85, so if they can do it, I'm sure we can too. I do realize that some of their agricultural production costs are lower than ours could ever be.

I don't see public transportation ever catching on to a great extent in the US. Our residential patterns are not conductive to efficient public transportation. Even US city dwellers are car dependent. The only way to really wean us off our Oil Dependency is to tax it to a level where it becomes painful, and that will be political suicide, so it's hardly going to happen, or certainly not happen at a pace fast enough to drastically reduce consumption. I do admire what Toyota and others are doing with Hybrids, but I honestly don't think that they are the best long term solution.

As for the Fusion's horrible crash test, I don't know what went wrong. Ford seemed to be genuinely surprised by how bad it was. There is supposed to be a re-test; we'll see what that finds.
