I actually agree with much of what you wrote--but what I'm trying to point-out is that it is a VERY slippery slope when anyone begins to define the needs of others--for whatever reason.

As for Lou Holtz, I'm not much of a sports fan because I don't see the entertainment value of elevating a bunch of selfish jerks, and I really feel like professional sports is a fabulous waste of everything. My brother in law's father was from a small village in Bolovia that has electricity from dusk for 2 or 3 hours every night, can you imagine how many months of electricity are wasted for one usless sporting event? Imagine the impact on inner city education if the thousands of professional sport hopefuls weren't deluded into thinking they had a shot at making it--for your entertainment. I think the US should impose a "Professional sports is a complete waste of everything" tax on all professional sports related transactions.

But for some reason, I just don't feel the need to tell you what to drive. Further, I just don't understand the impulse that forces others to tell me what I can and should be driving based-upon my needs. Especially when considering the magnitude of the issues we're discussing here. See what I'm saying?

It's real easy to kick up enough dust surrounding this argument to cloud the real issue but the bottom line is this: I already pay a per usage (efficiency related) tax based-upon my consumption of gasoline and further, you do not have permission to define my needs for me.

Like you said very well, education is the key.
