I'm making the same trip from San Diego to CT on Sunday. Some of the feedback I've received is to make sure your tires have correct pressure and have good treadwear. You might want to rotate them before heading out. Of course you may want to change your oil before leaving and when you arrive. Might want to take some collant and distilled water. Never know. Also, have the AC checked out if you have any concerns about it. I don't know if you have the Weather Band on your radio in the 2004, but that may be quite useful. I am taking the AZ, NM, etc. route, it is the most direct. However, taking the route through CO is the most scenic. The Rocky's can throw in a late storm in May sometimes.
Enjoy your trip! If you see a silver 2003 9-5 on the road next week it may be me!
