There's an auto 4 door '90 with 67k on right now for Buy it Now of $2,195. A car like that can run a very long time as long as it's not all rotted and you change the timing belts (probably due at that mileage and age).
But, while I'm throwing around my opinions :), most often the cheapest car to have is the one you have already. If you add up the price premium of the reduced gas mileage of the Caprice and the expected mileage that you'll be driving and put a real $ value to that, you can probably easily exceed that amount by jumping into any car with unknown problems. Caprice wagons aren't too sexy (unless they have an LT1!) but if you sell the Focus it would buy an awful lot of gas going into the future, plus you'd have a reserve fund if anything went wrong with the Caprice. Maybe something to consider anyway.
