they can measure the voltage at different points in the circuit or see the line voltage of the entire circuit - so if they actually came to my house they could indeed take a measurement for just that portion of the circuit, but they tell you if the do that and your circuit is faulty you pay a house call charge. So my arguement back is that my house is ok, they need to 1st independently measure the lines up to the demark point, in this case my house, so if their stuff is good then I know mine is the problem. but since I wired my own DSL line, I know it is good.
So it is a scam in many cases they are trying to pull, my dsl in house line is likely 30 ft at most, where the connection to the DSLAM is much longer and subject to not only the elements but other types of spurious interference.
I spent 2 fascinating yrs at the "your world discovered" or whatever that slogan is and the Telcos are something else altogether. They bleed whoever they can however they can, and in many cases try to blame someone other than themselves for problems.
