$10k cars shouldn't have 157k....... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Sat, 15 Jul 2006 11:12:02 In Reply to: Which board to post on? Sounds like you've got $10k to buy a car. Nothing wrong with an E class with 157k, probably still in good shape, has the wiring harness been replaced, but $10k is just way too much, it would have to be a diamond with $5k's worth of recent repairs and service work and then it's still got 157,000 miles.
There's just too much out there for $10k and highline cars with 157k are more like $3-6k if they're nice, maybe a skosh more for a Benz.
The '99 9-3 3 door has a lot going for it. Though not an SE the 3 doors have charm and practicality and are some of the best looking Saabs, the rear end and rear side works so much better without the back doors and extra windows. '99 9-3's had the latest side airbags and likely leather and a moonroof, turbo of course and are really good with the auto.
But still too much money, over retail book, thousands too much. The Saab is a much more entertaining car than the "drives like a truck" big steering wheel of the Benz, the turbo much livelier than the six, and likely way better fuel economy too. E class is too much luxury car for me, not as sporty as the Saab, any Saab.
Why not a 9-5? $10k should get you a selection of 2000 ish 9-5s with only 75k or so, or perhaps even an SE V6 or an Aero. God forbid you should become cool and get a SportWagon. More reliable than an E class, just as roomy and just as rich.
