this is pretty amusing, but also bothersome...
I get a kick out of the latest Mercedes commercial touting the "7 speed automatic for fuel effeciency... 27 mpg...". Oh, hold me back! I just did a round trip weekend to Sacramento from San Diego. Working on a saab race car and drove to bring parts and tools, otherwise would have flown.
480 miles up, 480 miles back. 6.5 hours up. 7.5 hours back. you computer the avg speed... 25.8 mpg up, 26.9 mpg back. Computed. ie miles divided by gasoline needed to refill the tank. the onboard computer is pretty darn close too. On the return drive I drove at 65-70 on cruise control for abount 90 miles and onboard computer said I was slightly over 30 mpg, so it's possible to get that. But it was boring and I was getting passed by *everyone*! Even the California Highway Patrol (CHP)! So I reverted to running with and in front of the pack...
Now we all know that the MPG on the commercials is "EPA estimate, your milage may vary..."
Point is I've got a 1994 5 speed 4 cylinder turbocharged car, and I'm kicking the New Mercedes 7 speed auto mpg... so I should get my car crushed? naaah...
