This guy does not make policy - how his lame-brain idea is "news" is beyond me, but thanks to the internet anyone can get their 15 minutes. Methinks he is just a mouthpiece for the struggling Big 3. Even they are too embarrased to propose legislating the purchase of new cars.
Besides, if car manufacturers would TRY to make cars to suit Canada's environment, maybe there wouldn't be a lot of rusting, falling apart cars on the roads. When you buy a new house, you don't have to rip open the walls to add insulation, so why do new cars need "rustproofing"?
Anyway, Canada has a higher percentage of fuel efficient cars thanks to higher fuel prices over the last few decades, so those "old" cars are probably better on gas than today's SUVs.
Let's all relax and finish our triple mocha lattes.
