ah, but this is a slippery slope....(long) Posted by baggsly [Email] (#2350) [Profile/Gallery] (more from baggsly) on Mon, 18 Sep 2006 21:19:05 In Reply to: having read the article ..., Trev, Mon, 18 Sep 2006 18:00:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
afterall, lots of cars in ontario have obviously rusted and loose body panels after only a few (less than 9) years. do those now qualify as dangerous or old?
i agree with the statements about pollution controls helping weed out the dirty cars, but if pollution is such a concern, what about emissions controls on diesels? they're pumping out tons of (less dangerous they say) pollutants and nothing is being suggested for those along the same lines.
older cars do tend to be driven less for the most part, and in california at least, after 30 years (from production date) cars no longer have to pass smog. mind you, those cars over 30 years old are for the most part, well maintained.
can you imagine what this would do to the collector car and enthusiast market if this became law? what about the folk who cannot afford to purchase a new car every 5 years? this smacks of political ass kissing to garner votes. canada has a coalistion government right now (if i remember the last election), what happens when one of the other coalition members has a classic car nut brother and doesn't want their car going to the crusher?
stranger things have happened, but i'd be surprised if this actually went anywhere.
mark :-)
