I arrived at Landvetter Airport in Gothenburg and there was no driver holding a Saab sign. Luckily, before the trip, I asked Jaye, the Saab USA European delivery coordinator what I should do if the driver did not show. So I followed her instructions and took a taxi (later reimbursed by Saab USA) to the Ronum Manor (which I knew how to get there thanks to their website and the airport's internet cafe). The Iraqi taxi driver did not know how to get there. Case #2: why planning is good.
In retaliation for the war, the Iraqi driver dropped me off at the hotel and sped away (and probably laughed). The hotel was closed. Doors locked. Local supermarket closed. Case #3: why planning is good...I had a sandwich with me! The hotel also had a call box with a direct line to the reservation office in Stockholm. They had someone open up the hotel and let me stay!
Monica P. of the ANA Trollhattan IDS office kindly offered to pay for the hotel in addition to the usual hotel stay and dinner. Thus, I got 2 free nights which is not peanuts considering the high costs of Swedish hotels.
In short, I got some extras by someone dropping the ball! It was better than if everything was up to speed.
Incidentally, someone in a different board reports being dropped off at the hotel when it was closed. It seems that the Ronnum Manor is closed on Sundays except during the summer.
It does take a while for the car to be shipped within the US. My car was shipped from the Brunswick, GA port to south Florida and it took a while. It might have taken 3 weeks?
