Me:
1992 Toyota Corolla LSX (Canadian model), bought new, sold at 5 yrs, 85K
1997 Saab 900SE coupe, bought new, sold at 7 yrs, 123K
2002 Saab 9-3, bought 2004 used at 14K, presently own at 39K
2002 Saab 9-5 Aero SW, nought 2006 at 32K, presently own at 39K
Wife:
1998 Honda Accord, leased for 3 yrs
2001 VW Gti GLX, bought new, sold at 45K (for 9-5 SW)
Rationale:
The Corolla was replaced since it would cost too much to "import" to the US and I wanted a fun-to-drive good utility car. The 900 coupe was replaced as we wanted a 5-dr Saab, the 900 was due for some serious maintenance, and the 9-3 was a great find at the time. If we hadn't found the 9-3, we'd still be driving the 900 or have replaced it with the SW.
The Accord lease expired and my wife wanted a fun-to-drive small car vs. a driving appliance. The GTi was replaced by the 9-5 SW to get more cargo hauling capacity as our needs expanded.
I can see keeping both Saabs for another 5 years, then replacing them with used 9-5 or 9-3 SW's. However, I'm not too thrilled with the current Saab models, so it could be a tough choice in the future.
