One advantage good old 14k gold has over titanium or (I would think) tungsten carbide is the ease by which it can be cut off in an emergency.
This happened to my father when I was a kid, he jammed his finger while fixing the family mid-70's era Volvo, his finger swelled up like a sausage, the ring was cut off in the ER (saving the finger from severe damage), and jewelry shop repaired it later.
Some friends of mine went with stainless steel. Interesting, but sort of industrial for my taste. Me, I have 14k with a millgrain edge.
