I guess I am joining Stuart Wachter, MD. And I would like to know what the outcome was of your pursuit!
I own a 1999 Saab 9-5 Wagon with a 4 cylinder engine. Bought it used at 34,000 miles from someone who kept scrupulous records because she leased it. This was my fourth Saab, have I been loyal or what? I have been ABSOLUTELY RELIGIOUS about changing the oil on 3000 or 6000 mile intervals because my plan was to keep the car until the floor rusted out!
About 2 weeks ago I was driving up a hill, it lost power, overheated (no red warning lights went on) & the radiator hose blew up----all in about 3 minutes. My mechanic says he has seen seven of these situations on 99-201 Saabs this summer alone.
I would like to know about others who have had this problem and the results. I've not contacted the dealer yet, as it's at an independent shop and they are looking for a used engine, which will probably cost me $2k+
I live in Colorado. Of course we have cold starts here. Wasn't this car made for Sweden???
Any advice, similar experiences would be appreciated!
Elaine from Colorado
