You keep the art! These sleeves have 2 outer areas for the front/back cover art, and a clothlike inner sleeve for the CD. It's quite nice. My only complaint is that I had to fold the back art, which is wider than the front. You lose a few millimeters per side. Doesn't sound like much, but I had to make 2200 folds, in addition to breaking up all the cases. In the end, this effort did reduce the CD space usage by over 60%. Total bonus.
Also note, the Billy bookcase has a top extension to get one more shelf up high. He'll need that extension to hit 1000 CD's. No need with sleeves.
I have a friend who does these sleeves in a drawer type storage unit. It's nice because it's like you're flipping through discs at the store. But the bookcase uses the minimum floor space.
