Being an audiophile, I'd have to go lossless on a dedicated silent PC. That may be a neat long term option, but not anytime soon. Also consider, I mostly spin vinyl at home. CD's are for the cars or background when cooking, working, too lazy to flip records.
I've considered buying some of those 300/400 CD players, but the digital out is always optical. If they had a decent coax digital out, I'd probably just have 3 of those babies stacked up and a notebook with a lookup table.
Also, how long does it take to rip 1000 cd's? That seems like a heck of a chore.
