Similar thing happened to me 5 years ago this month Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 19 Oct 2007 03:34:56 In Reply to: new twisted in credit card theft, yaofeng, Thu, 18 Oct 2007 18:07:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Unfortunately, your nightmare probably isn't over yet. Chances are the stores will have a "signature" on the charge slips, claim the unrecognizable scrawl is yours, and demand payment. Your credit card company will gladly pay them the money since the stores pay the charge card companies 2% to 5% on all sales and you pay them nothing.
It took us 6 months or arguing, providing copies of documents to prove we were not in Miami at the time (the charge card company conveniently forgot they were able to reach us by phone at home in Michigan only minutes after the suspect charges hit their computers), notarized signatures, threats of legal action, etc. Eventually we did not have to pay for the thousands of dollars of electronics and furs purchased at an upscale Miami department store.
BTW - We later discovered the Miami Crowne Plaza hotel where we had stayed the prior weekend is notorious as the source for a lot of credit card number theft!
You have my sympathies, and hopefully your resolution be less stressful than ours.
