a place you want to stay for your retirement ?
If you retire from your current job, does it have any health care continuation ? Health care coverage is an issue, more so for people in our age group, i.e. 10-15 years before eligible for Medicare to kick in. I think the US health care system is broken as it ties health care coverage with employment.
If I'm not mistaken, you are financially secured at this point. Do you really care what the new job pays as long as it is sufficient to maintain your current standard of living minus your initial expenses of going there ?
Do you view this new job as something to do during your semi-retirement or a real job before your retirement ?
Would it be easy for your wife to find a job there or does your job offer include a job for her as well ? Can you negotiate a higher salary or is the offer a take it or leave it proposition ? Will you retire there if things don't work out and let your wife continue to work in order to have health care coverage ?
From a purely financial stand point, the new job doesn't sound that great but are there intangibles there to balance out your initial financial hits ?
I have taken jobs with lower pay a few times for various reasons, some worked out fine, some didn't. So we are back with the very first question I posted. Will you go there just to retire ?
Every few days my wife would ask me whether we should retire. I would answer "We certainly can, but only when she knows where and what to do during retirement".
Let us know of your decision and whether you would change MI-Roger to NC-Roger.
